RanLOS participation in Simulation and Verification of Wireless Technologies 2 (SIVERT 2)

Short summary of RanLOS participation in the SIVERT 2 project with our AI colleague Adam.

Background
Modern vehicles rely heavily on robust wireless communication (V2V, V2I and cloud based cellular systems), which is crucial for road safety (real-time traffic/hazard information) and user experience (infotainment). However, ensuring the wireless communication performance remains challenging. Traditional verification approaches often rely on large external test chambers, late-stage prototypes, or time-consuming drive tests, all of which can slow development and are difficult to repeat consistently. The main vision behind the project is to find ways to verify vehicle connectivity as early as possible in vehicle development projects.

To meet industry needs, Volvo Cars, Scania, RISE, Lund University, Tietoevry, and RanLOS joined forces in the SIVERT 2 project (Simulation and Verification of Wireless Technologies 2), a Vinnova-funded research project, which ran from April 2022 to September 2025.

SIVERT 2 builds on results from the first SIVERT initiative and covers the complete verification chain: system simulations (WP1), component and system verification (WP2), and end-to-end verification (WP3). RanLOS is a central contributor in WP2, where the RanLOS measurement system is used as one of the verification methods.

RanLOS’s contribution
Within WP2, RanLOS has further developed several core parts of its compact over-the-air (OTA) measurement technology. This includes enhancements to the BeamForce 42 test system, new antenna arrays supporting a broader range of frequencies, and the development of BeamTilt. BeamTilt, with its lift-and-tilt solution, enables testing of antennas and wireless systems from multiple elevation angles in a controlled setup. BeamTilt was delivered and installed at Volvo Cars during the project, where it now complements their BeamForce 42 system as part of their test environment.

Through these developments, RanLOS can provide the project partners and the automotive industry with solutions that enable efficient in-house OTA measurements, saving both time and resources.

Impact on the industry and for RanLOS
For the automotive industry, SIVERT 2 demonstrates how combining simulations with practical in-house OTA measurements can streamline verification from early concepts to integrated prototype testing. More frequent measurements and faster feedback loops lead to better design decisions, reduced development risk, and improved wireless performance in the final vehicle platforms.

For RanLOS, the project has accelerated product development and expanded its offering. BeamTilt adds new testing capabilities, while improvements to BeamForce 42 and the antenna arrays strengthen its technology platform. The collaboration with OEMs and research partners has provided valuable insight into future industry needs, supporting RanLOS’s position as a trusted provider of flexible, cost-efficient, and reliable test solutions for automotive wireless performance.
